Thorin Oakenshield and his dwarf group begin a dangerous journey to reclaim the heap of gold stolen from them by the evil dragon Smaug, Gandalf the magician advises an impossible accomplice: Bilbo Baggins, a simple Hobbit living in peaceful Hobbiton.

The group traveled to the wild, where Gandalf saved the company from the troll and directed them to Rivendell, where Elrond revealed more secrets from the map. Passing through the Misty Mountains, they were caught by the goblin and pushed deep underground. Although Gandalf saved them, Bilbo was separated from the others as they fled from the goblin. Lost in the goblin tunnel, he tripped over a mysterious ring and then met Gollum, who involved him in a puzzle game. As a reward for solving all the puzzles, Gollum will show him the way out of the tunnel, but if Bilbo fails, his life will disappear. With the help of the ring, which gave invisibility, Bilbo ran away and rejoined the dwarves, increasing his reputation with them. The goblins and Wargs chase, but the company is saved by an eagle before resting at Beorn's house.

a group of dwarves entered the black forest of Mirkwood without Gandalf. In Mirkwood, Bilbo first saved the dwarves from the giant spiders and then from the Wood-elf dungeon. Approaching Mount Lonely, travelers are welcomed by Lake-town people, who hope the dwarves will fulfill Smaug's death prophecy. The expedition walked to Lonely Mountain and found a secret door; Bilbo stalked the dragon's nest, stole a large cup and aimed for a gap in Smaug's armor. An angry dragon, concludes that Lake-town has helped the intruder, determined to destroy the city. A thrush has heard Bilbo's report on Smaug's vulnerability and reports it to Lake-town defenders, Bard. The Bard's arrow finds a blank spot and kills the dragon.

When the dwarves controlled the mountain, Bilbo found Arkenstone, the heir to the Thorin dynasty, and hid it. Wood Fairies and Lake Humans surrounded the mountains and asked for compensation for their help, reparations for the destruction of the Lake City, and the completion of the old claim on the property. Thorin refused and, after summoning his relatives from Bukit Besi, strengthened his position. Bilbo tried to redeem Arkenstone to block the war, but Thorin was very stubborn. He drove Bilbo away, and the battle seemed inevitable.

Gandalf reappears to warn all the troops of the goblins and approaching Wargs. The dwarves, men and elves united, but only with the timely arrival of the eagle and Beorn did they win the Climax Battle of the Five Soldiers. Thorin was badly injured and reconciled with Bilbo before he died. Bilbo only receives a small portion of his treasure, has no desire or need for more, but still returns to the home of a very rich hobbit.
